This concert is dedicated to the music of Northern European composers: Edvard Grieg, Jean Sibelius, Arvo Pärt, and Ola Gjeilo are but some of the musicians whose works are included in the program.
PCS pays homage to composers whose diversity reflects not only multiple soundscapes and songs, but the souls and lives of resilient peoples.

Luncheon-Talk (French language) Talleyrand, Dorothée de Lieven et la naissance de L’Entente cordiale

Christophe JUBAN, our guest speaker, has spent three decades within a major French industrial group where he held a number of senior positions in international trade, finance and strategy. His first book, Dorothée de Lieven, diplomate et icône du Concert Européen ( Éditions Michel de Maule) was shortlisted for the 2024 Talleyrand Book Prize.
Appointed in 1830 by King Louis-Philippe as ambassador to England, Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand was entrusted with helping to resolve the Belgian independence crisis that was threatening to generate tensions with Russia. During this period, he was introduced to the wife of the then Russian ambassador, Dorothée de Lieven. Christophe Juban will examine the role the two prominent figures played in heralding the Entente Cordiale.

Libre Résistance - SOE F Section

Commemoration of the 104 agents of SOE F-Section who died in their mission to liberate France in WWI

This is the traditional annual ceremony which brings us together at the foot of the Memorial of Valençay where we pay homage to the memory of all our departed comrades, and in particular, to the memory of the 104 agents of F Section who lost their lives on operations or died in the Nazi concentration camps.
This is followed by a cocktail party at the Mairie and then lunch at the Orangerie du Chateau de Valencay. This is the 35th anniversary of the unveiling by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and the 85th anniversary of the parachute drop of the first agent, Georges Begué on 6th May 1941.
