HEALTH SERVICES

Institut Hospitalier Franco-Britannique

The new hospital group in Levallois combines the Hertford British Hospital and the Hôpital Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours on two sites and is jointly administered by Trustees of the two charities.

The IHFB at 4 rue Kléber specialises in general medicine, orthopedic & digestive surgery, cancerology, rheumatology, long-term care and runs an Accident and Emergency department.

The IHFB at 3 rue Barbès is the specialised centre for woman, mother and child, with gynaecology, obstetrics, pediatrics and neo-natal departments. There are laboratories, radiologists (scanner, ultrasound etc) and physiotherapy on both sites.

Private appointments can be made at Barbès with British GP, Dr Gunita Jolly

The Hertford British Hospital Corporation is the Charity founded by Sir Richard Wallace in 1872 and manages the International Centre of Dermatology at 12 rue Barbès, and also houses various health services for the Hauts-de-Seine. The Hôpital du Perpétuel Secours was created also in the 19th century as a Catholic charity. Our aim is to care for our English-speaking patients as in the past.

Cancer Support France

CSF is made up of a growing number of affiliated associations across France, supported by the umbrella organisation, CSF-National. The association exists to support English-speaking people living in France who are affected by cancer. It is open to people of all faiths or none. It is not necessary to be a member of CSF before receiving support, which is always given without charge.

Support can be given in a number of ways, and is always arranged following an initial contact and request for help. Support can be as little as guidance to sources of information about cancer and its treatment or as complete as regular personal contact for as long as the client (patient or family member) needs. It can include guidance through the administrative procedures of health care in France. If the team has members with sufficient language skills a volunteer may accompany a patient to hospital appointments to act as an interpreter. This ensures that the client understands what the oncologist is saying and what treatment is proposed etc.

The mainstay of support work is listening and helping the patient express and deal with issues that are worrying them. Volunteers who interact directly with clients are fully trained, according to a nationally agreed course, and are known as 'Active Listeners'. They work on the telphone, face-to-face if distance is not a problem, email or even Skype. All AL's and members of CSF in contact with clients abide by a code of confidentiality.

Volunteers are available on Tuesday mornings 10h00 – 12h30.
