CHURCHES AND CHAPLAINCIES

Aquitaine

The Anglican Chaplaincy of Aquitaine

The Chaplaincy of Aquitaine is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion and in the Diocese in Europe. We are supported by the Intercontinental Church Society. Our mission is to minister to the spiritual needs of the English speaking community in the Dordogne, the Gironde and the Lot et Garonne. As well as Anglicans, our congregations include fellow Christians from Methodist Church, Baptist Church, United Reformed Church, Church of Scotland, Brethren, ecumenical and other backgrounds; not everyone has English as their first language. We gather to worship in a dozen churches and in private homes spread across an area the size of Wales.

The Chaplaincy was created in 1825, essentially as an Anglican Church in Bordeaux, and has gone through many changes over the years. Its current structure dates from about 1990. There are about 350 members on the electoral roll, although many more than this number attend services. Details of our services, and much other information is available on our website.

St. George’s Anglican Church

St. George’s is an Anglican Church of the Diocese in Europe, which forms part of the Church of England. To find us: Métro Kléber or George V, between Avenue d’Iéna and Avenue Marceau near the Arc de Triomphe.

The community consists of mainly Anglican Christians from many different countries and walks of life, who seek to respond to God’s love for us and for his world in our daily lives and by developing a welcoming and caring community of faith together. The focus of all that St. George’s does is the offering of daily worship. The Sung Eucharist at 10.30 on Sunday mornings includes a sermon, choir, servers and incense. The service is mainly in English, with a reading and sometimes intercessions in French. There is a Sunday school and crèche during the service. Coffee and wine are served afterwards, and lunch is usually available for a small charge. Other regular services include a Messe malgache (in French and Malagasy) at 4.00 pm on the first Sunday of each month. The church is open daily from 9.00 am to 6.30 pm.
